Abstract:

COVID-19 was first described in December 2019 in Wuhan (China). It rapidly spread around the world generating a global health crisis. It mainly affects the respiratory system and is characterized by a variable course with symptoms ranging from fever, odynophagia, and cough, to even severe viral pneumonia, multi-organ failure or death. In recent months, many studies have been trying to advance in the study of the extrapulmonary manifestations of the disease, being the most representative the ones that involves the nervous, cardiovascular, hematological, integumentary, gastrointestinal, and renal systems. The objective of this narrative review is to describe the main characteristics of these manifestations to provide tools for their timely identification, which is essential for therapeutic decision-making that seeks to reduce complications and mortality associated with COVID-19.

Key words: COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, fever, global health, respiratory system, extrapulmonary manifestations.
