Mental Health of a Transgender Peasant Woman

Abstract
Objective. To analyze the social factors of discrimination that influence the mental health of a transgender peasant woman, based on an analysis of the Colombian documentary film SeñoritaMaría: La falda de la montaña. Method. A qualitative, hermeneutic, and transdisciplinary approach was used, drawing on data collected through new ethnographic methods. Results. The findings show the impact of discrimination and social exclusion on the mental health and psychological well-being of transgender women, specifically in the case of María Luisa Fuentes. Conclusion. The study demonstrates that social discrimination negatively affects the mental health of this population. Furthermore, despite the limited availability of information on this topic in Colombia and across the continent, the applied methodology enabled a transdisciplinary exploration of the issue, generating theoretical contributions to psychology and related disciplines.
