Abstract

ALBA-TCP is one of the most recently created international organizations. Doubtlessly, it is an original project, very different from the existing and known regional integration formulas. With a strong political view, it intends to be a mechanism to planify, based on the public matters, economic and commercial relationships amongst countries, avoiding or reducting as possible market competition and promoting cooperation and sinergy within solidarity and socialist values. All of this as an expression of the ideological crossroads where almost every trend of social and left wing thoughts grow and mix up with the logic of postmodern thinking. ALBA and the governments that form part of it are in the midst of a continental-wide geopolitical and ideological confron- tation that biases the objectivity of analysis. This article pretends to go beyond those biases presenting a rigor- ous academic analysis without taking sides. The historical circumstances that involve the birth and evolution of ALBA, its ideological program and specific projects are analized within it, pointing out their convergence with those of the latinamerican and worldwide alter-mundialization movement. Finally, some specific development statistics are pointed out in order to evaluate practical results of the economical policies of this regional block.
