Abstract

Objective.
The organ and/or tissue transplantation is a viable therapeutic option for the treatment of chronic
diseases, terminal stages, without vital commitment. A significant percentage of research and professional
interventions have revolved around the biological dimension of transplantation and donation promotion.
However, interest in the psychosocial experience and quality of life of the receptors in this process has increased
over the last decade. The present study
is
aimed to understand the meaning attributed by the patient to the
organ transplanted
,
the
donor, life and death.
Method.
A systematic literature review was conducted based
on 51 articles obtained from six specialized databases (Ebsco Host: Academic Search, Ebsco Host Psychology
and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Proquest, Pubmed, Science Direct y Taylor and Francis Online).
Results.
Although interest in the issue of recipients experience during transplantation has been increasing, the research
of psychological aspects involved in transplantation of organs and tissues is not conclusive.
Conclusion
. Further
research is required to provide elements to predict and explain the behavior of the recipients.
