Abstract

This research explored the psychosocial factors which facilitate or hinder the social re-integration of
three individuals with links to the illegal armed groups (FARC-EP, UC-ELN and AUC), who are in
the Villahermosa prison. These factors were: perception of the armed conflict in Colombia, perception
of the group dynamic of the illegal armed group, and of the prison yard. A qualitative methodology
with descriptive-exploratory design was used, and the information was gathered by means of in-
depth interviews, and the participants were three men in yards 2, 4, and 9. The information gathered
was fed into the system using the Ethnograph software version 5.0. The main findings were: 1)
the perception of the armed conflict contained, structural, economic and cultural elements which
legitimize its continuation, and, 2) the dynamic of the illegal armed group is reproduced in the group
dynamic inside the prison. Taking this into account, the conclusion drawn was that these factors
hinder the process of social reintegration.
