Abstract

Objective.
To identify, describe, and analyze the components, effectiveness, and methodology of prevention
programs for dating violence, described in articles retrieved from information systems: Redalyc, Psicodoc,
Science Direct, Proquest, PsycArticles, and Ebsco, between January 1990 and December 2012.
Method.
Thirteen articles were selected, which described the empirical evaluation of such programs, and had the
following components and subjects in common: conflict solving skills, a knowledge of healthy relationships,
sexual harassment and assault, changing attitudes about the violence in dating relationships, and help-
seeking skills.
Results.
In general, these programs reported a decrease in violent attitudes, and an increase
in knowledge about dating violence, although the majority do not make behavioral change evaluations, and
in those cases where follow - up measurements are taken, the progress achieved is not reported.
Conclusion.
For knowledge on this subject to advance, studies with more rigorous methodology have become necessary,
which focus on effective behavior change, and to improve the capacity of generalization of these studies to
different populations from teenagers and young educated adults.
