Small windows: of opening towards encounters with the others, in children with autism

Abstract
Objective. To present the understandings developed in the international and inter-institutional research "Development of a clinical protocol for the early diagnosis of autism", whose purpose is to broaden the vision of the child with autism in the medical, educational and social contexts through the understanding of the complexity of their inner world, from the first moment of the diagnostic process. Method. The TCE test was used to inquire about the presence of Emotional Contagion (EC) in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Results. The analysis of the case of one child from the research population, allowed for the identification of EC as an indicator for the possibility that the child with ASD may begin the constitution of intersubjectivity. Thus, the EC becomes a compass for the therapeutic proposal for people with ASD, which invites them to new encounters. Conclusion. Even with a blockage of emotional development in ASD subjects, it is possible to identify small openings towards the emotions of others, "windows" and possibilities for the relational development of these children, which becomes a prelude to more complex constructions such as empathy, bonding and relationships.
