Abstract

Objective. To characterize the work life stories of a group of health care workers in Colombia with experience in the care of trans women. Method. Research with a narrative design with the participation of eight people who work in a healthcare context in Colombia. Through an in-depth interview, they inquired about their work life stories based on their experiences in care for trans women. Results.Participants exposed the barriers that exist in health care as a consequence of the lack of healthcare routes, ignorance of trans identities, their needs and forms of accompaniment, as well as the stigma that predominates in Colombia, a cisnormative society. Conclusion. Health care for women in gender transitions is deficient, not very humanized and trans-affirmative. The creation of evidence-based routes built collaboratively with trans communities in integration with the healthcare, educational and government sectors is a necessity.
